President’s Welcome

Welcome to the Junior League of Monterey County and thank you for visiting our website! I invite you to explore our site to learn about how we cultivate leaders who collectively address the critical needs of our community.

Since 1963, The Junior League of Monterey County, Inc. (JLMC) has been committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

We are fortunate to have a passionate and diverse membership of women and we are proud to be part of their development in becoming civic leaders, visionaries and change agents of tomorrow. Our members continue to implement their JLMC leadership training by serving as elected local officials, board members for community organizations and leaders of local businesses, nonprofits and civic organizations.

Our history serving Monterey County is long and significant. We look back with pride at nonprofits like Meals on Wheels and the Monterey County Youth (MY) Museum, which were established by the JLMC. Emotionally powerful projects, such as the Silent Witness Project, continue to this day throughout our county.

Over the next year, we will continue the leadership training that is the hallmark of our organization by partnering with other nonprofits to create service learning events for our membership. Through these service learning events, we will identify how our organization can impact and address the current needs of our community.

The Junior League of Monterey County welcomes all women who value our mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities. JLMC members have the opportunity to develop critical skills including, leadership, governance, fundraising, event planning, finance, project management, and more. New members are always welcomed. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the President of the Junior League of Monterey County. I am thankful to call this beautiful area my home and look forward to what we will accomplish as a group of empowered women this year.

As Margaret Mead, an American cultural anthropologist, once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
